Use Postage Rules to Offer Alternative Shipping Methods (e.g. International Shipping)

You could create multiple sets of Postage Rules to cover different shipping methods, such as Standard Mail, Next Day Delivery, and even International Shipping. For example, you could create a Postage Rule based on the Total Order Price, with a minimum order value of $0 and a maximum of $50, with a postage cost of $10 - you could call this Postage Rule "Standard Delivery to the USA". You could then create another rule for an alternative shipping method, perhaps called "Next Day Delivery to the USA", also with a minimum order value of $0 and a maximum of $50, but this time the postage cost would be $20. If a customer's order was valued between $0 and $50, they would then be offered the following postage options during checkout and be able to select whichever they wanted:

Standard Delivery to the USA - $10
Next Day Delivery to the USA - $20

You could then take this a step further by creating a rule called "International Shipping" with a minimum of $0 and a maximum of $50, and a postage cost of $30. During checkout, the customer would then see:

Standard Delivery to the USA - $10
Next Day Delivery to the USA - $20
International Shipping - $30

So far, each of the rules covers a "band" of order values between $0 and $50. But what happens when a customer's order totals more than $50? Simple - just create another set of those 3 rules using a different price range, perhaps covering orders from $50.01 to $100. Using this method, the customer will only be offered the postage options that are appropriate to their order.

Continue to create different sets of Postage Rules to cover every band you want. The final band in a Postage Rule will automatically have its Maximum Price, Weight or Quantity set to "unlimited" to ensure a valid postage option will always be available to a customer. You can override this setting by clicking on the red "Unlimited" link shown in the final band of a Postage Rule.

To restrict each Postage Rule to a specific country or state, you can use the Available to setting below each Postage Rule to specify one of the following options:

All Countries/States: With this option selected, the Postage Rule will be offered to all customers, regardless of their location.

Specific Countries/States: With this option selected, you can then click the "Edit List" link to specify a list of applicable countries/states. When a customer's Delivery Address matches one of the selected regions, they will be offered this Postage Rule option during checkout. If the Delivery Address does not match a selected region, this Postage Rule will not be offered to the customer.
