How to Create a Link

To create a link, simply highlight the text that you would like to become a link by clicking and dragging over it. The selected text should be highlighted in blue.

Once the text has been selected, click on the Hyperlink Manager tool at the top of the text editor and a new window will pop-up. You will then have access to a range of options. There are 3 tabs along the top - Hyperlink, Anchor and Email.

Hyperlink - A standard link from one webpage to another.
  • URL - Enter the destination of the link here (such as "http://www.destinationwebsite.com/pagename.html").
  • Link Text - This should show the text that you previously highlighted. If you did not highlight any text before using the Hyperlink Manager, you could simply enter some text here and it will automatically appear on the page as a link.
  • Target - This allows you to select which window you would like the link to use. The only options you are likely to need are "Same Window" or "New Window".
  • Existing Anchor - Link to an existing named anchor point on this page. This is an advanced feature for users with a working knowledge of HTML.
  • Tooltip - Any text entered here will pop-up when you place your mouse over the link for a few seconds.
Anchor - A link to a specific part of the page currently being viewed.
  • Anchor - Use this option to set a named anchor point on the page. This is an advanced feature for users with a working knowledge of HTML.
Email - A "mailto" link that will attempt to open a blank email using the default mail client (such as Outlook).
  • Address - Enter an email address (such as "email@website.com").
  • Link Text - This should show the text you previously highlighted. If you did not highlight any text before using the Hyperlink Manager, you could simply enter some text here and it will automatically appear on the page as a link.
  • Subject - The Subject of the email will be set to whatever is entered here.
