A step-by-step guide detailing how to add and manage categories and their contents from within your Freewebstore Control Panel.

This section of the freewebstore help website looks at the actions you can carry out within the Categories section of your control panel. We guide you through:

• Adding a category to your online store.

• Adding a subcategory to your online store.

• Editing a category.

• Moving a category to a different position.

• Moving a sub-category to a different category or position.

• Adding a product to a category.

• Uploading an image to a category.

• Deleting category.

How to Add a Category

1. Log into your Freewebstore Control Panel.

2. Go to Manage > Products > Categories.

3. In the input box, enter your new category name.

4. Click Add.

5. Click Save.

How to Add a Subcategory

1. Login to your Freewebstore Control Panel.

2. Go to Manage > Products > Categories.

3. Click the category you wish to add a sub-category to.

4. When the category is highlighted, the area at the top of the panel will change. You will see some action buttons appear and you will see that the text above the input box has changed to "Add a new category into: [the selected category]", this means that any text you input in the field provided will create a sub-category of that name when you click "Add".

5. When you are happy with the changes, click "Save".

You can add as many sub-categories to a category as you like. Similarly, you can add further sub-categories to your sub-categories by selecting the sub-category and following the instructions above.

How to Edit a Category

1. Log into your Freewebstore Control Panel.

2. Go to Manage > Products > Categories.

3. Click the category you want to edit.

4. Click the Edit button that appears at the top of your category list.

5. A pop-up will appear.

6. Here you can edit:

   • Category Name

   • Category Description (click Html) to edit with styles.

   • Category Image

   • Category SEO

     • SEO Title

     • SEO Keywords

     • SEO Description

     • SEO Custom URL

7. Once you've finished editing the category, click Apply.

8. Click Save.

How to Move a Category

1. Log into your Freewebstore Control Panel.

2. Go to Manage > Products > Categories.

3. Click and hold a category that you want to move.

4. Whilst still holding, drag the category up and down.

5. Drop when you are happy with the placement.

6. Click Save.

How to Move a Sub-category into a Different Category

1. Log into your Freewebstore Control Panel.

2. Go to Manage > Products > Categories.

3. Click and hold a category that you want to move.

4. Whilst still holding, drag the category over and slightly to the right of a different category.

5. Drop when you are happy with the placement.

6. Click Save.

How do I add a product to a category?

There are a couple of ways to do this:

1. Log in to your control panel.

2. Add a new product to your store.

3. In the Add Product window, in the category field, either type in a brand new category, or select an existing category from the dropdown that appears after clicking inside the input box.

4. Click Add to add the product to your store.

OR

1. Log in to your control panel.

2. Go to the Manage > Products > List All Products section.

3. Click Edit on the product you wish to add a category to.

4. In the Product Details section, you will see the Category field. Either type in a brand new category, or select an existing category from the dropdown that appears after clicking inside the input box.

5. When you are happy click Save.

You will then be able to view this product in the category you selected on your store.

How to upload an image to a category?

Some of our designs at Freewebstore allow you to attach an image to it. To attach an image to a category:

1. Log in to your control panel.

2. Go to Manage > Products > Categories.

3. Click on the category or sub-category you wish to attach an image to.

4. Click Edit at the top of the page.

5. In the new window that appears, you will see 3 tabs at the top of the window, click the Image tab.

6. Click Add Image.

7. Either drop an image into the box provided or choose an image from your gallery and click Apply.

8. Repeat this for any other categories and when you are finished, click Save.

How to Delete a Category

1. Log into your Freewebstore Control Panel.

2. Go to Manage > Products > Categories.

3. Click the category you want to delete.

4. Click the red Delete button that appears at the top of your category list.

5. Confirm the deletion.

6. Click Save.
