# Search Bar

How search works on your store, and how to add a large search box to a page.

Search lets customers find a product quickly by typing what they're looking for.

On the new design system, search is built into your store's menu. A search icon sits in the menu at the top of every page, and customers click it to search your products. It is always on, and there is no setting to turn it off.

### Add a big search box to a page

If your customers usually arrive knowing what they want, you can also put a large search box on a page, such as the top of your home page.

1. Log in to your Freewebstore Control Panel.
2. Go to **Design > Website Theme**.
3. Open the page you want the search box on. Click **Pages** on the left to switch page.
4. Hover over the section above or below where you want it, and click the **+** button on its top or bottom edge.
5. In **Add a block**, click **Hero** and choose one of these:
   * **Hero Search**: one big, centred search box with a heading, a short line of text and a row of quick links.
   * **Hero Split with Search**: your words and an optional search box on one side, a picture on the other.
6. Hover over the new block and click **Edit** to change its wording, then click **Done**.
7. Click **Publish** to make it live.

### Older designs

If your store still uses one of our older designs, you can turn the search bar on or off:

1. Go to **Design > Theme Editor**.
2. Hover over the search bar in the store preview and click **Edit**.
3. In the panel on the left, choose **Enable Search Bar** or **Disable Search Bar**.
4. Click **Save**.
