# Can I save my Theme?

A detailed step-by-step description from one of our support specialists on how you can Save your Theme from within your  Freewebstore Control Panel.

Not on the new design system. Saved themes belong to our older designs. They let you keep a copy of your design before switching to a different one. On the new design system you don't switch between themes, so there's nothing to save in that way.

Instead, the **Website Theme** editor keeps your changes as drafts until you're ready to make them live.

### Try changes without affecting your live store

1. Log in to your Freewebstore Control Panel.
2. Go to **Design > Website Theme**.
3. Make your changes. When you edit a block, click **Done** to keep your edit as a draft. Moving, hiding and deleting blocks are drafts too.
4. While you have drafts, an **Unpublished changes** bar shows at the top of the screen. Your live store hasn't changed yet.
5. Click **Publish** to make your changes live, or **Discard** to throw them away. Discard also brings back any blocks you deleted or hid since you last published.

**Publish before you close the editor.**

Your drafts are only kept in the browser tab you're working in. They aren't saved to your account, so you'll lose them if you close the tab. The editor warns you if you try to leave with unpublished changes.

A few changes don't wait for **Publish**:

* **Adding a new block** puts it on your live store straight away.
* Changes you make in the panels on the left, such as **Colours** and **Typography**, go live when you click **Save** at the top of the screen.

If you want to take a block off your store for now but keep it for later, hide it rather than deleting it. Hover over the block and click the eye icon, then click **Publish**. Once you publish a delete, you can't undo it yourself, but we keep a copy of most deleted blocks' content for 30 days, so contact support if you need one back.

### Themes you saved before moving to the new design system

Any themes you saved on an older design are still listed under **Design > Overview > Saved Themes**, but you can't restore them yourself. Restoring one would move your store back to an older design, and only our support team can do that. Contact support if you need it.

### Older designs

If your store still uses one of our older designs, you can save your current theme when you switch to a new one. This needs a paid plan.

1. Go to **Design > Theme Marketplace**.
2. Choose the theme you want to switch to and click **Select Theme**.
3. Tick **Save Theme** and type a name under **Name of Saved Theme**.
4. Click **Switch**.

Your old theme is saved, and you can switch back to it at any time from **Design > Overview > Saved Themes**.
